Assertion; “A confident or forceful statement of fact or belief.” Well that was said assertively! And why not, if you know something, it is a healthy ability to speak on it with conviction! However, the second side of this thought is belief; should we be so pushy if we only believe something to be true but do not know for fact? Certainly! Or not… In terms of debate, the strength of the argument lies in the truth surrounding the statement so it stands to reason that a belief may not hold the some impact without the same sound proofs of facts. Shall we also “assert” that truth may then also be simply a belief held in the eye of the beholder? Whereas facts may only be ascertained by the educated of the topic and if so, how does the layman engage the conversation without only belief of knowledge on said tabled conversation? Or maybe it is simply a debate of “whose sports team may be better?” where the argument is truly personal for the most part and not factual; does it become equally strengthened by fanfare’s emotion? Or am I, at this moment, ascertaining too much conviction to the literal strength of a definition to an emotionally and factually charged translation to personal terms for engagement…
